150 pcs Panel clamps anodized Alu 50, Van Der Valk.
Surface-treated panel clamp fits Aluminum 50, stainless steel Torx screw T30 and plastic spring and clamping plate included.
As a result of the reduction in frame thicknesses of solar panels on the market, the clamps now mostly need to be screwed to a low position. This has increased the risk of "cold welding", which can occur when a bolt is screwed into a nut with high friction and speed. To mitigate this risk, the lock nut will now be replaced with a standard nut to reduce this friction and heat generation during installation. In addition, the clamps will be pre-assembled in a lower position to a frame thickness of 40 mm to reduce the amount of rotation required and to shorten the installation time per clamp.
The panel clamps have a plastic spring that holds the nut under slight tension and prevents the nut from moving during (dis)assembly. This means that there is actually no direct technical reason to apply a lock nut to the clamps. It does not affect the actual clamping force on the panels and tests have been done to ensure that the nuts do not come off the clamps during transport.
Recommended torque
For panel clamps with the standard nut, we recommend a torque of 6 to 7Nm. This torque is slightly lower than what has been previously published in our manuals, as there is no additional friction to consider with the standard nut compared to a lock nut.
