Traditional necklace and earrings originating from northern India. Set with so-called polki diamonds (total approx. 40 ctw) in various sizes set in silver and high-carat gold "kundan". Worked back pieces in red, yellow and green meenakari enamel applied to 18K gold. This traditional Indian jewelry is made with a technique called kundan/meenakari. Kundan means "fine gold" and refers to the gold that sits directly around the polki diamonds, which is actually a type of gold leaf that has been worked with iron tools which is a method of setting the gemstones. The links (ghaat) where the diamonds are set are made of 18K gold and are filled with a form of lacquer "lac" which is an organic substance secreted by a special type of beetle.
